Some cars were never really about speed. This one sits in a sunlit courtyard beneath brick arches and a balcony spilling red geraniums, its long teardrop fenders gleaming plum and silver. The Talbot-Lago was built in France in the late 1930s and is still spoken of as rolling sculpture, and Sushma Mahajan paints it with that reverence. Every brick is laid by hand, and every curve is carried by the white of the paper, so the body seems to hold its own light. The warmth of the architecture keeps the chrome from feeling cold. It suits a living room with good morning light, or the study of someone who collects beautiful machines, or simply loves the idea of them.
