These Urban landscape lens heavily into the tactile nature of the city, particularly of an aged old industrial structure. The process involved building up layers of oil paint to create a heavy impasto texture, mimicking the peeling paint and rust of an old industrial building. I used wall scrapers to achieve the tactile raw surface. The thought behind this series of works was to capture the contrast between the organic decay of the walls and the man made geometry of fire escape stairs. The earthy tones, vibrant almost defiant doors and windows. It's about finding life and colour in unexpected, gritty places.
