Shilpnidhi — an Artiure initiative
Select Size:
A white elephant stands at the centre of a deep cobalt field, painted in ceremonial dress - patterned blanket, anklets, a small crown - with yellow and orange detail picking out the trappings. A slim border of green leaves runs the rim, keeping the eye from wandering off the edge. The contrast is what carries it: white on cobalt is the oldest pairing in the craft, and still the one that photographs least well and looks best in person. Quartz paste body, freehand brushwork, low single firing, all done by hand in Jaipur. Hang it at eye level. It rewards standing still.
