This is miniature painting moved onto a curved surface. A white horse stands in a scalloped arch - the same arch you find in Rajasthani palace doorways - bridled, saddled and dressed in red and gold, with a band of grass and small flowers beneath its hooves. The arch is bordered in blue and green, holding the scene the way a frame holds a portrait. Painting this on a concave plate is considerably harder than painting it flat, and the steadiness shows in the line of the horse's neck. It belongs somewhere it can be looked at closely - a study, a reading corner, a narrow wall beside a doorway. This is a plate people walk over to.
