Makrana is the quarry the Taj Mahal came from, and the marble is still cut the same way - by hand, from one block, with the fluting worked outward in a single pass so the ridges run true. The interior is polished smooth; the outside keeps the carved rhythm. It is heavy in the way stone should be, and it stays cool to the touch on the warmest day, which is why fruit keeps well in it. Three sizes. The nine is a key bowl by a door, the twelve a centrepiece, the fifteen the thing people notice before they notice the table.
